Meta has officially revealed Orion AR smart glasses, marking a major breakthrough in augmented reality (AR) technology. Unveiled at the Meta Connect event, these lightweight glasses aim to replace smartphones by providing a full holographic display directly in the user’s line of sight.
Orion smart glasses feature built-in projectors that display holograms without obscuring the user’s face. The glasses can function both indoors and outdoors, allowing users to make video calls, send messages via WhatsApp and Messenger, and access AR versions of apps like YouTube.
A unique AI integration allows users to gain insights into their surroundings, such as checking the contents of their fridge and receiving recipe suggestions.
Meta is testing these glasses with limited users before a broader release, anticipated by 2027, positioning Orion as the next big step in tech innovation.
